   Sebonack Golf Club Southampton, NY
   Assistant Golf Course Superintendent 2004 - Present

Situated on 300 acres in Southampton, NY, and neighboring the historic National Golf Links of America and Shinnecock Hills Golf Course, Sebonack has been carved out of land which seems to have been long-destined to become a golf course.  Jack Nicklaus and Tom Doak, two designers with dramatically different styles, have used the natural contours and features of the land to create a unique look. The result is that Sebonack looks quite different from its illustrious neighbors and provides a strong golfing challenge for players of all calibers.

Golf Course Construction

o   Assisted the mass excavation crew in removal of trees and soil before shaping could occur.
o   Assisted in the construction of all the greens including shaping, drainage (pipe and gravel), greens mix and seeding.
o   Assisted in the shaping of bunkers and waste areas including drainage, native plant re-vegetation, seeding and sand
     installation.
o   Installation of drainage basins and pipe throughout the golf course.
o   Assisted in irrigation pond construction.  Including the shaping the sides and floor of the pond for liner installation.
o   Responsible for the native restoration program.  Including the planting of hundreds of trees and bushes native to the
     area.  Also assisted in the hydro-seeding of native seed blends to disturbed areas.  Assisted in the seeding of all the 
     fairways, tees and rough areas.

o  Involved in the placing and planting of all plant material around the clubhouse and nine cottages. 
     This also includes installing drip irrigation in the clubhouse beds.

o  Supervised a crew of 70 workers during construction.

o  Assisted in all GPS work done on the property including mapping all golf course features, buildings and utilities.

Human Resource Management

o   Manage a staff of twenty workers that include multi-cultural employees.

o   Responsible for monitoring hours and the submitting of payroll.

o   Involved in employee hiring which includes all necessary paperwork.

o   Responsible for the training of all employees in order to create a strong working environment.

o   Responsible for intern program including the finding, interviewing, hiring and writing of necessary reports to their     
     college or university.

Golf Course Management

o   Assist the golf course superintendent in maintaining the condition of the golf course to meet the Sebonack Golf  Club 
     greens standard.

o   Continuously monitor, report and offer opinions and solutions to the Golf Course Superintendent on                           
     conditions  relating to course irrigation, disease, playability, aesthetics and insect pest management.  

o   Coordinate and assist in the application of pesticides & fertilizers to all green, tees, fairways and rough.

o   Operated Toro irrigation system, including course satellites, two pump stations, wells, and Toro Site Pro                  
     central computer.

o   Responsible for the winterization of the irrigation system which includes, golf course, clubhouse, cottages and pump
     houses.

o   Delegate daily course preparation responsibilities and assess development.

o   Responsible for the processing and filing of all invoices in order to maintain a budget.

o   Responsible for all inventories relating to fertilizers, pesticides, golf course supplies and office supplies.

o   Responsible for yearly submittal of pesticide annual report and annual well pumpage report to the New York State
     DEC.

 

Shelter Harbor Golf Club - Westerly, Rhode Island

Assistant Golf Course Superintendent
March 2003-September 2004

Shelter Harbor Golf Club is situated on approximately 400 acres of open space located in Westerly and Charlestown, Rhode Island.  Designed by Michael Hurzdan and Dana Fry, Shelter Harbor was ranked 2nd on the list “Best in State Rankings” by golf digest for 2007 and 2008.  It was also the first private golf club built in Washington County in over 100 years.

Golf Course Management

o   Supervised irrigation installers to assure all codes were met and proper installation procedures were followed.

o  Assisted the construction company in constructing and seeding of the golf course.

o  Seeded all twenty nine greens on the property.

o  Involved in several stone wall reconstruction projects. This includes stone walls surrounding the cemetery on #2 and the wall
    behind the #18 green.

o  Monitored environmentally sensitive areas including wetlands and vernal pools.
    This included installing silt fence and hay bales  in order to prevent erosion.

o  Responsible for writing and filing all Erosion and Sedimentation Reports.

o  Performed soil and water samples, while maintaining a log for results.

o  Supervised, calibrated and applied all pesticide and fertilizer applications.

o  Managed all course operations in absence of the Superintendent.

o  Coordinate and assist in the management of and discussions with industry vendors.

o  Developed safety training sheets and procedures for all employees.  Including sign off forms for equipment use.

o   Involved in the interviewing, hiring and orientation for all new employees.  Including all necessary paperwork.

o   Supervised a staff of twenty to twenty five workers.

o   Prepare daily job lists and weekend schedules to achieve the most efficient use of workers and equipment.

 

Bethpage Black Golf Course - Farmingdale, New York

Golf Course Intern

Summers 2001-2002

 

Designed by A.W. Tillinghast in 1936, the Black course is one of five courses at Bethpage State Park.  The Black is a public golf course which has hosted two US Open’s, the first being in 2002 and the latest in 2009.  It is currently ranked #22 in Golf Digest’s top 100 rankings.

Golf Course Management

  

o  Prepared Black course for numerous tournaments, most importantly the 2002 US Open.

o  Daily course maintenance including mowing, watering and course setup.

o  Mixed and applied both pesticides and fertilizers.

o  Assisted in the construction of the new range tee for the 2002 US Open.

o  Mowed greens during the 2002 US Open.

o  Gained exceptional experience in golf course reconstruction from projects performed both before and after the 2002
    US Open.
